Category mapping

How to decide where products from specific categories should be imported.

If you have already created categories in your store (or if you want the warehouse categories to be added automatically), you can use the category mapping.

The page dedicated to this task consists of one panel divided into two parts - the first one concerns products in unmapped categories, the second one contains a list of all categories available in the warehouse, each having a field to set the corresponding category in your store.

How do I correctly map categories in my store?

First, you need to determine how the integrator should treat products from unmapped categories. This is extremely important because, depending on the decision made, these products will either not be added at all or may be added in a way that does not meet your expectations.

There are four options:

  • Add a product not assigned to any category

  • Do not add a product when its category is missing

  • Assign the product to the default category

  • Add the missing category to the store and assign a product to it

Hint:

In the case of the "Assign product to the default category" option, select a category in the additional field to which all unmapped products will be added.

At first glance, you can see how seriously the structure of your store can be influenced by incorrect setting of this field. Neither option is clearly better than the other - it all depends on what product policy you want to implement.

Until a decision is made, however, we recommend selecting "Do not add a product when its category is missing" - this way integrator will add only products for which it has been clearly specified where they should be placed.

The next step is to set the mapping list - to do this, select the corresponding category in the store from the drop-down list for each warehouse category. Leaving the field blank will mark products from this category as unmapped.
